Under the merciless barrage of insults coming from both the Deadpool film franchise and Ryan Reynolds himself, Green Lantern has arguably gotten a bad reputation as of recently. These harmless jokes have not stopped cosplayers from creating and showcasing some of the best-designed superhero fan costumes ever made and a lot of them are based on the mighty possessor of the Power ring.
It doesn’t matter whether fans had Alan Scott, Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, John Stewart or Kyle Rayner in mind when transforming into the character. Regardless, the best of the suits not only honor the comic-book and movie versions of the character but many of them feature some fully original elements. Here are 10 excellent Green Lantern cosplays that every DC fan has to see.
Shawn Webber, better known by his cosplayer alias dynamitewebber, is the artist behind this outstanding Green Lanter suit. featuring multiple elements made of different kinds of leather, including a mask, armor, bracers, shoulder pads and of course – the ring itself. The use of three different colors provides the costume with a refreshing level of detail and the white symbol on the chest is a particularly nice touch.
Shiny green light, plastic armament, an epic mask and an appropriate serious superhero scowl make iObject the perfect cosplayer for Green Lantern. The ring symbol blinds viewers in the most epic way imaginable and the three beaming lines that protrude from it in three different directions, particularly the one that cuts right through the abdomen and the armor engravings, genuinely give it a powerful aura.
8 Dan Robert
Nobody who lays eyes on Dan Robert’s Green Lantern cosplay would dare say that the perfect shade of emerald green doesn’t exist. He showcased the costume at the 10th Philippine Toycon.
The armor does make the wearer look quite heroic through its impressively crafted abdominal section and the pale decoration of the chest symbol. The pale contact lenses, which Dan is wearing, are also satisfying impactful.
Bound in leather colored in different shades of green, CosplayDave does justice to the character’s unmistakable style. The vambraces, shoulder armor, mask and ring symbol are all neat details but nothing beats the light green outline that decorates every element of the suit. An additional symbol is placed on his left glove – probably that’s where the ring’s power emerges from in this version of the hero.
At the New York Comic Con 2012, a cosplayer going by the name Echoendless showed up with a version of Green Lantern that as bold as it was original.
An old-school portrayal of the character that makes him look like an 18th century decorated general that visited a masked ball in a royal palace, the level of detail on the costume is staggering – from the locks, the lantern and the ring to the mask and the uniform.
The costume of the British cosplayer BFortunas is in a league of its own. It may lack a mask but the artist makes up for that with some truly spectacular armor parts – on the legs, arms, waist, chest and shoulders. He is wearing the ring on his right hand and a satisfied expression that is fully justified based on the result of his work. The whole suit feels quite authentic because of the multiple layers it is made up of.
4 Cliff Cosplay
The costume of Cliff Cosplay is quite flawless – it is just the right combination of detail and authenticity. The armor has that necessary metallic look. There’s also the surface lighting of the symbol spread across the torso armament and the shoulder pads.
There are lights on the metallic boots and even the ring itself can be lit up. The white gloves are an element which most cosplayers avoid in order to be original but Cliff Cosplay is all about being accurate to the comics.
3 James Wulfgar
James Wulfgar brings out the big guns when it comes down to his Green Lantern cosplay costume, both figuratively and literally. The costume covers him from neck to toes and is filled with various the green, white, and black colors that have defined Green Lantern’s appearance throughout the years. The size of those guns is making it hard to see if he wears the ring but in the presence of a weapon like that, he doesn’t really need it.
2 Captain Jaze
Simplistic in its material and quite exceptional in its coloring, Captain Jaze‘s cosplay features just a mask, a ring, and a full-body costume but it is arguably the most beautiful of the fan-made suits inspired by Green Lantern. The brightest part of it is the ring symbol, which produced darker green streaks, that seamlessly transition into black. The whole suit is obviously made by someone with a natural aptitude for art and design.
1 Cosplay Quest
The undisputed champion of Green Lantern cosplays is Cosplay Quest for this epic Iron Man-like version of the costume. The number of spectacular details on this costume is just too great. The use of color and the tiny crevices in the armor make the whole suit all the more authentic. The repulsors on the arms as well as the arc reactor, which should also serve as the ring symbol and countless other elements, put the cosplaying fans of two superheroes to shame at the same time.
Green Lantern fans have proven themselves to be a creative bunch, evidenced by these incredible cosplay efforts.
