There’s just no denying it – the more popular a series is, the more hate it accrues. Attack on Titan is six years old, and that’s a long enough time for people to nitpick the series and its characters into oblivion.
This article will discuss 10 of the most hated characters from the series. It covers some major spoilers, so be careful before going ahead with reading the article!
If there’s one thing about Mikasa, it’s how devoted she is to Eren. So much so that when she thought he’d died, she went on a titan killing spree, hoping to eventually die in the line of fighting.
However, what some view as loyalty, others view as an unhealthy obsession. Considering the fact that she’s an excellent soldier, she could have honored Eren’s memory more by killing as many Titans as possible, instead of becoming a martyr to her own feelings for him.
Annie was disliked by many from the get-go. Because she is a spy, her job is to blend in and not arouse suspicion. However, her stand-offish nature does the opposite, and many cadets in her own group ended up resenting her for her arrogance.
Sure, she has an extremely traumatic past, but who doesn’t in this series? She could have used that to side with humanity, instead of working against it.
8 Kitts Woerman
Kitts is one of those characters who has zero likable or redeeming qualities about him. He’s crass, loud, has a huge ego, and lets his emotions guide his decision-making capacity. He’s also a coward, as evidenced by him abandoning his subordinates and running for his own life when things got tough.
He isn’t a bad person; it’s just that he’s consistently made poor life decisions and has shown zero regret while doing so.
Much like Annie, Ymir is exposed as a traitor to Eren and his friends when it is revealed that she’s been working with their enemy all along. This betrayal is deemed more repugnant by the fact that she was showered with nothing but love and kindness the moment she entered the Survey Corps.
She then saves the life of Christa (which was going against her direct orders), and then does a 180 and sides with Reiner and Bertolt, escaping with both while Levi and his squad end up chasing her.
Boys who are sensitive or show emotions are often hated as being too weak or pathetic. As such, Armin’s emotional “weakness” is a small reason why he’s disliked by many anime fans.
The biggest reason he’s disliked is how he’s frustratingly timid and how his seemingly cowardly actions often take away from the fact that he’s actually one of the most intelligent characters from the series.
5 Connie Springer
The problem with Connie is that he’s just a meh character. Not only does he not get a lot of time on screen, but there’s nothing about him that makes him stand out as a character.
He’s not part of the main trio, he’s not an extremely good or courageous soldier, he’s not exceptionally good looking or charming, nor does he have an interesting back story. He simply exists as one of the most average characters the series has to offer.
4 Eren Yeager
He’s hot-headed, lets his emotions get the best of him, cries and shouts a lot, and he cares about nothing else once he’s set his mind to something. These traits have been emphasized again and again, showing how brawns alone seldom help Eren win any fights.
If anything, all of his friends and comrades end up cleaning up the messes he creates, and often end up giving up their own lives in order to save his own.
3 Bertolt Hoover
Bertolt is the Connie of the Titan trio. He’s not well fleshed out, and he’s a coward. His first instinct whenever he gets into trouble is to run to Reiner so that he can take care of him.
Fans are given zero information about him to make them sympathize with him or his actions, nor is he given strong enough motivation to be doing what he’s doing. In the end, he dies as being one of the most forgettable villains from the series.
2 Zoe Hange
Zoe’s hyperactive nature, her disregard for rules and regulations when it comes to the capture of titans, and her overall “quirky” nature is seen by many as nothing but a sad attempt at injecting humor in a series that is largely morbid in nature.
She sticks out like a sore thumb, and her absence from the series wouldn’t make much of a difference.
1 Gabi Braun
Reiner’s cousin was posed to be Eren’s foil and was one of the many main protagonists of the manga. However, fans were not happy with this as her bratty nature came off as more unlikeable than cute.
She’s overbearing, disrespectful, domineering, and threatens to punish her fellow Eldians the moment they disagree with her. Her terrible attitude, along with her lack of any redeeming qualities, easily make her the most hated character from the Attack on Titan series. This fanart of hers has been created by ADDLXI.
While there are a lot of characters in Attack on Titan that fans love, there are also a lot that most fans hate.
