B-movie studio Full Moon Video has been helping fans cope with quarantine life through its own series of “Coronasploitation” flicks. Its latest project will be a feature-length comedy related to the hit Netflix docuseries, Tiger King. The upcoming project is titled, Barbie & Kendra Save the Tiger King
Following up on its previous release, Corona Zombies, the comedy satire will follow the Barbie (Cody Renee Cameron) and Kendra (Robin Sydney), who Full Moon has described “are now faced with their deadliest foe yet – social distancing boredom! Hooked on binge-watching a television show about a man and his tigers on a nature channel, the two ladies hatch the perfect plan to save the Tiger King himself!” Full Moon also stated that the movie was filmed “under the parameters of the quarantine.”
As the title makes clear, the film will delve into the quarantine craze for the Netflix documentary miniseries, Tiger King, which centered on zoo operator and owner Joe Exotic and large cat conservationist Carole Baskin. Barbie & Kendra Save the Tiger King will feature voice work from American Horror Story actor Leslie Jordan and a Zoom appearance by John Reinke, Joe Exotic’s former manager.
Like Corona Zombies, which drew from voiced-over stock footage from Zombies vs. Strippers and Hell of the Living Dead, Barbie & Kendra Save the Tiger King will also use repurposed footage from news programs and older films.
“Two major things have blindsided us this year – the global effect of the pandemic and the surprising success of Tiger King,” Full Moon CEO and director Charles Band explained. He went on to explain that in response to the state of the world, “We have come up with our own crazy comment on our times.” He added, “Getting John and Leslie on board to play with us and help bring this ambitious project to life is both a thrill and an honor and we hope all of our fans dig what we’ve come up with.”
Barbie & Kendra Save the Tiger King will be released on May 15 through Full Moon Features.
The new “Coronasploitation” film from Full Moon Productions will show Barbie and Kendra set out to save the Tiger King.
