While most of Black Widow is set in between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, even more of the founding Avenger’s Marvel Cinematic Universe history will be revealed in the upcoming film.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige hinted that the movie will explain what Natasha Romanoff has been up to in between her previous appearances throughout the MCU. “She’s been up to a lot all along –- in between when we see her in the other movies –- some of which will be surprising to people,” he teased in an interview with Total Film.
Debuting in 2010’s Iron Man 2, Black Widow was a former K.G.B. agent recruited to S.H.I.E.L.D. by Nick Fury. At the start of 2012’s The Avengers, she was undercover on a separate mission before co-founding the eponymous team and making subsequent appearances with both the superhero group and alongside Captain America. With the character revealed to have a surrogate family in Russia and a new villain in Taskmaster, Natasha has kept busy beyond her time with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, O-T Fagbenle as Rick Mason and Rachel Weisz. The film is scheduled for release Nov. 6.
