Louis Leterrier is in negotiations to direct Bright 2, a sequel to Will Smith and Joel Edgerton’s original Netflix film that was directed by David Ayer.
According to Deadline, Smith and Edgerton are slated to return, while Ayer is busy focusing on other projects for Netflix and Warner Bros.’ Dirty Dozen movie. Ayer and Evan Spiliotopoulos provided the Bright 2 script with T.S. Nowlin rewriting.
The Bright sequel will bring back Smith’s Daryl Ward and Edgerton’s Nick Jakoby, with the latter representing the first orc police officer. Instead of their adventures taking place in Los Angeles, Bright 2 will reportedly introduce an international setting. Tallying mixed reviews, 2017’s Bright was one of the first big-budget movies to land at Netflix after a competitive spec auction. The original film formerly held the record for most views in its first week on Netflix.
Leterrier’s credits include The Incredible Hulk, the Transporter films, Now You See Me, Clash of the Titans and Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
Now streaming on Netflix, Bright stars Will Smith, Joel Edgerton, Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Edgar Ramirez and Ike Barinholtz.
