After defeating Rhea Ripley on the second night of this year’s WWE WrestleMania, Charlotte Flair is once again the NXT Women’s Champion.
On the first main card show of the night following a pre-show bout between Liv Moran and Natalya, Flair and Ripley battled for about twenty minutes. The match came to its conclusion when the heir to the Flair wrestling dynasty cinched in her signature Figure 8 Leglock, forcing defending champion Ripley to tap out.
This marks Charlotte Flair’s second reign with the NXT Women’s Division’s top prize. Flair was the second NXT Women’s Champion in history, defeating Natalya at NXT TakeOver in 2014 to win the strap in the final match of an eight-woman tournament designed to crown a new champion after the belt was vacated by Paige. Flair’s first run with the NXT Women’s title lasted 258 days. Several years later, Ripley herself claimed the title, defeating then-champion Shayna Baszler on an episode of NXT.
Since her initial graduation from NXT, Flair has gone on to win numerous other titles on WWE’s main roster. She is a one-time Diva’s Champion, a four-time Raw Women’s Champion and a five-time SmackDown Women’s Champion. She also came out on top during the 2020 Women’s Royal Rumble earlier this year.
Following Flair’s victory over Ripley, WWE veteran and NXT senior producer Triple H took to Twitter to congratulate both women on the match. “[Rhea Ripley] went toe-to-toe with one of the absolute best women to ever step in the ring… her path to greatness has not changed one bit. #ProudOfYouBoth,” he wrote. Trips then added, “…Night two [of WrestleMania] sets the bar high!”
On the second night of WrestleMania 36, NXT alum Charlotte Flair defeated Rhea Ripley to reclaim the developmental brand's top women's division prize.
