Doctor Who fans who are impatient for the next series to drop will soon have something to tide them over: a massive, multi-platform saga starring David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor, Time Lord Victorious. Now, BBC Books has announced the release of two novels that will kick the entire epic off.
The first of the two novels is Doctor Who: The Knight, The Fool and The Dead by Steve Cole, which has the Tenth Doctor travel back to a primordial era and work to prevent death itself from being imposed on all living beings by a race called the Kotturuh. Next is Una McCormack’s All Flesh is Grass, which sees the Doctor’s plan to stop death backfiring and bringing him into conflict with his own past incarnations, the Eighth and Ninth Doctors.
The title of the series comes from the special “The Waters of Mars”, in which the Doctor tries to rewrite history to prevent a tragedy, and in his hubris describes himself as the “Time Lord Victorious”.
Time Lord Victorious will unfold over a 12-week period at the end of 2020 and will consist of novels, comics, audio plays, virtual-reality games and even escape rooms. The mixed-media arc will feature the Tenth Doctor, Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor, Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler and alien species the Ood and the Daleks. It is currently unknown how many of the original actors will be reprising their characters, although Billie Piper, Paul McGann and David Tennant have in the past returned to their roles for Big Finish’s audio plays.
Doctor Who: The Knight, The Fool and The Dead will be released in October while Doctor Who: All Flesh is Grass will come out in December.
