Disney+ is developing a reboot of Doogie Howser, M.D. with the main role focusing on a 16-year-old half-Asian, half-white female.
According to Variety, the upcoming Disney+ original series takes the star to Hawaii and features a name change to Doogie Kealoha, M.D.
Kourtney Kang is listed as a writer and executive producer alongside Jake Kasdan, Melvin Mar and Dayna and Jesse Bochco. 20th Century Fox will produce the Doogie Kealoha, M.D., which also produced on the original series starring Neil Patrick Harris.
Doogie Howser, M.D. starred Harris in the title role and ran from 1989 to 1993 on ABC for four seasons. The actor was also the star of CBS’s long-running How I Met Your Mother, which came to an end in 2014 after nine seasons.
Other reboots and revivals currently in the works for Disney+ include Mighty Ducks with Emilio Estevez set to return; Lizzie McGuire with Hillary Duff; High School Musical: The Musical: The Series; and Turner and Hooch.
At this time there is no information on a premiere date for Doogie Howser, M.D. reboot, Doogie Kealoha, M.D.
