Dragon Ball: 5 Characters Who Can Learn Ultra Instinct (& 5 Who Can't)

Ultra Instinct is one of the most powerful techniques to exist in the world of Dragon Ball. Also known as a divine state, this power is extremely hard to attain, even for the likes of the Gods of Destruction.

Ultra Instinct allows a user’s body to react on its own and fight independently, without being influenced by the thoughts and emotions. Although this technique is extremely hard to learn, there are characters who have the potential to pull it off.  Here are 5 Dragon Ball characters who can learn Ultra Instinct and 5 who can’t.

10 Can: Goku

Goku is one of the most powerful warriors in the Dragon Ball series and has the potential to master the powers of Ultra Instinct. During his fight against Jiren, Goku was able to tap into these powers and lead Universe 7 to victory.

During the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc, Goku learned how to use Ultra Instinct Sign, however, he still hasn’t mastered this power completely. In time, he’ll be a master of Ultra Instinct.

9 Can’t: Piccolo

Another strong warrior from Universe 7, Piccolo is a Namekian who trains his body and soul to fight against any threats that disrupt Earth’s peace. Piccolo is quite a powerful fighter, capable enough to take on strong warriors from other Universes.

However, seeing that Ultra Instinct is a state that even the Gods struggle to achieve, it is highly unlikely for Piccolo to ever tap into this power.

8 Can: Vegeta

The Prince of the Saiyans, Vegeta hails from Universe 7 and aims to surpass Goku one day. Although he’s plenty powerful already, there doesn’t seem to be a limit to his hunger of growing stronger.

By training his spirit with the Yardrats during the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc, Vegeta is one step closer to attaining the powers of Ultra Instinct. Although he wants to achieve strength in his own way, it is highly likely that he’ll attain Ultra Instinct, through one way or the other.

7 Can’t: Yamcha

Yamcha is a human from Universe 7’s planet Earth. He is quite a decent fighter for human standards and powerful enough to take on your average threats. Although talented, he has stopped growing as a fighter a long time ago.

Yamcha is barely ever focused on in the series and it would make absolutely no sense for him to gain Ultra Instinct. Furthermore, Yamcha has nobody who could teach this technique to him.

6 Can: Beerus

The God of Destruction of Universe 7, Beerus is one of the strongest characters in the series, possibly the strongest in his universe. Beerus is known to have a decent grasp on the powers of Ultra Instinct, however, just like Goku, his versions of this technique isn’t complete yet.

It will take him some time to master the powers of Ultra Instinct and truly become as strong as he can become. Without a doubt, Beerus can accomplish this feat.

5 Can’t: Toppo

Toppo is a Pride Trooper and one of the candidates for the God of Destruction spot of Universe 11. He’s quite a powerful fighter who can also use God Ki, just like Goku and Vegeta.

Furthermore, Toppo can tap into special powers, such as Hakai, as well. Although he’s strong, he’s still far from reaching the true level of a God of Destruction. Toppo doesn’t seem like he’ll attain that power anytime soon. Learning Ultra Instinct is out of the question, for now.

4 Can: Champa

Champa is the brother of Beerus and the God of Destruction of Universe 6. Like Beerus, he’s quite powerful and has been trained by a powerful attendant in Vados. Champa knows of the existence of Ultra Instinct, however, he doesn’t seem to know how to use it.

In the future, it is possible for a godly entity such as himself to gain this power, provided he is willing to train hard enough. Since Beerus already has a grasp on Ultra Instinct to an extent, Champa could follow in his footsteps.

3 Can’t: Hit

An assassin from Universe 6, Hit is quite a powerful character who has the ability to skip through time itself. With this power, he appears to be almost invincible. Only a handful of characters can defeat Hit in battle, which is a testament to his abilities.

Although Hit grows quickly in the midst of fighting, learning Ultra Instinct means he’s going against his primary technique, which is the Time Skip technique. For that reason, it appears that Hit will not learn this power in the future.

2 Can: Gohan

Gohan is the son of Goku and Chi-Chi, which makes him a half-blooded Saiyan. He is known to have incredible potential, however, his duties often stop him from fulfilling it. After the Tournament of Power, Gohan has now started training seriously again.

It is possible that in the future, the universe will face impending doom once again and Gohan will have to step up. For that reason, fans expect Gohan to get stronger. Just like Goku learned Ultra Instinct from Merus, Gohan could do something similar.

1 Can’t: Krillin

Krillin is a human from Universe 7’s Earth and one of the Z warriors. He’s quite a powerful human who has proved his skills time and again, most recently, in the Tournament of Power.

Although Krillin is strong, he doesn’t have what it takes to tap into the power of Ultra Instinct. Being a skill that even the likes of Goku and Beerus have struggled to master, it goes without saying that attaining this power is nigh impossible for Krillin.
