In the main event of the second night of WrestleMania 36, Drew McIntyre finally won WWE‘s most prestigious prize — defeating the “Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar in order to claim the WWE Championship.
In a match that went less than five minutes and was packed to the brim with finishing movies, McIntyre managed to keep Lesnar down for the three count after hitting the former UFC Champion with a series of Claymore Kicks.
In addition to the fact that this marks the Scottish Psychopath’s very first reign with the WWE Championship, McIntyre is now also officially WWE’s 31st Triple Crown Champion, having previous Intercontinental Championship and Tag Team Championship reigns for the promotion.
McIntyre (real name Andrew McLean Galloway IV) began wrestling in 2001 under the name Drew Galloway, making his way to WWE as Drew McIntyre in 2007. McIntyre departed the company in 2014 and underwent something of a career renaissance, working for the likes of ICW, Evolve, PWG and TNA/Impact Wrestling . He returned to WWE under the NXT banner in 2017, claiming the developmental brand’s top championship. Upon returning to the main roster, he won the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble to earn his championship bout at WrestleMania.
