Dungeons & Dragons Leaves Twitch for One Week in Support of #BlackLivesMatter

Wizards of the Coast, the company behind Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, has shown solidarity for the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

The official Dungeons and Dragons Twitter account posted a statement saying that Wizards of the Coast would make charitable donations to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, My Brother’s Keeper Alliance and Black Girds Code. “We stand in solidarity with those fighting racial injustice,” the statement begins.

In addition, there will be no live broadcasts of Dungeons & Dragons campaigns this week on the official D&D Twitch channel. “While fantasy gaming can be an escape for many, we want to show our solidarity by focusing on supporting voices that have traditionally been oppressed. We will continue supporting independent D&D creators,” the statement continued.

Wizards of the Coast is the latest organization to support the Black Lives Matter movement. Streaming services including Netflix, Hulu, HBO and Amazon have all issued statements in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis. Other organizations, including J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company, have made charitable donations to anti-racism and black-led organizations.

Dungeons & Dragons fans were also encouraged to donate, engage and support their communities and other organizations.
