Last year, Game of Thrones ended its eight-season run on a low note, garnering divisive views from across the fanbase. Now, series star Kit Harington has shared what he thought about Jon Snow’s ending.
Harington answered a fan Q&A on Twitter, addressing why he believed his character’s ending was fitting.
Harington said, “When people say to me, ‘I wish you’d been on the Throne, or I wish you’d been with Dany on the Throne,’ I disagree because Jon’s place was always in the North. He’d never have been happy in the South. He’s like Ned Stark.”
He elaborated, saying that Jon was “always happiest” when he was in the North. Harington also touched on what he wanted his final performance to convey: a weight being lifted off Jon Snow’s shoulders. He said, “What I tried to do with the ending was…you know, he’s been saddled with this weight all the way through the series –and he’s this heavy character, he’s literally got a cloak on him, he’s heavy. And I wanted this last bit to be a sort of lightness about him. It’s all falling off, this terrible thing that he’s been through, it’s falling off as he goes North.”
Game of Thrones stars Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Kit Harington.
