Grand Theft Auto V Free Release Crashes Epic Games' Online Store

Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V is currently available for free on PC through the Epic Games Store.

However, those looking to grab the game might have difficulties, as the increase in traffic has crashed the website. In a tweet, the company wrote, “We are currently experiencing high traffic on the Epic Games Store. We are aware that users may be encountering slow loading times, 500 errors, or launcher crashing at this time and we are actively working to scale. We’ll provide an update as soon as we can.”

Previously, a deleted tweet indicated Grand Theft Auto V would be available for free on the Epic Games Store through May 21.

Released in 2013, Grand Theft Auto V is the newest installment in the long running open-world franchise. The game is set in the fictional state of San Andreas, which is roughly based on Southern California, and follows protagonists Michael Townley, Trevor Philips and Franklin Clinton. A major feature of Grand Theft Auto V is the ability to commit heists. Grand Theft Auto V holds numerous sales records and received universal acclaim from critics upon its release.

GTA V is available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.
