HBO Announces Hellraiser Series | CBR

After successfully revitalizing the Halloween franchise on the big screen, filmmaker David Gordon Green is developing a revival of a different horror franchise for television.

HBO is developing a Hellraiser television series, with Green attached to direct the series pilot and several of its initial episodes, executive producing the project with Halloween co-writer Danny McBride. The planned series will be written by Mark Verheiden (Swamp Thing) and Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r’ Treat, Godzilla: King of the Monsters).

While details about the series are currently under wraps, it’s slated to be a continuation of the film franchise as opposed to a complete reboot of the property. The film series is based on author Clive Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart, involving a sinister artifact unleashing dark forces known as Cenobites on Earth.

Since the original 1987 film adaptation, there has been a wave of sequels and merchandising to keep the franchise alive. Recently, Spyglass Media announced it was developing its own, unrelated cinematic reboot, signing on David Bruckner to helm the planned film from a screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski.
