Jim Lee Draws Hawkgirl For COVID-19 Relief | CBR

Jim Lee’s latest sketch in his charity auction brings the winged warrior Hawkgirl to life.

The sketch was chosen by the highest bidder on Lee’s previous sketch of Hal Jordan as the Spectre and is currently available for purchase on eBay. At the time of writing, the sketch has a price tag of $7,404.

All proceeds from the auction will go to benefit the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (BINC). The BINC is helping local comic shops in need during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. Lee has enacted other initiatives such as the #Creators4Comics movement on Twitter to support comic shops and plans to draw 60 sketches over 60 days for the relief effort.

Lee’s image showcases Hawkgirl standing tall, with her wings curled and her mace hefted on her shoulder. The design resembles Hawkgirl’s costume in the Justice League run by writer Scott Snyder.

Hawkgirl, much like her counterpart Hawkman, has a rather convoluted history. The version Lee drew is of Shayera Hol, a native of the planet Thanagar. Shayera and her lover Katar have lived many lives, reincarnating across the years. Shayera has also held the identity of Kendra Saunders and was a founding member of the team in the Justice League animated series.
