Justice League Dark Writer Reveals More About Constantine's Sex Life

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, now available on Digital HD.

Many people were talking about that moment between Constantine and King Shark in Justice League Dark: Apokolips War where the spellcaster admitted that he and King Shark hooked up, and writer Ernie Altbacker revealed where the idea came from in a forthcoming exclusive interview with CBR.

“You know what, I have to give credit to Mairghread Scott,” Altbacker said. “Mairghread thought up that bit of fun that not only is Constantine a bi character, he’s kind of pansexual [laughs].”

In the scene, Constantine, Superman and Raven confront a group of villains in an underground fight club where Constantine came across his ex. That ex happened to be King Shark, the shark supervillain known for ripping things to shreds with his powerful jaws. In response, King Shark simply smiled back.

Constantine’s bisexuality has been in continuity since the early ’90s where he admitted that he’s had ex-girlfriends and ex-boyfriends. Recently in the comic,s Zatanna has been his romantic interest and the same has been for the DC Animated Movie Universe.

Altbacker added, “It’s something that [Scott] unearthed but it’s true, Constantine has made it with a bunch of demons also; it doesn’t have to be human with Constantine!”

In the Arrowverse, Constantine has been involved with Sara Lance, a barkeep named Desmond from New Orleans, and Gary Green, the lovable fool from the Time Bureau. Constantine is known for having a devil-may-care attitude, and with his record of bedded demons, King Shark seems a little less strange by comparison.

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War stars Matt Ryan as John Constantine, Jerry O’Connell as Superman, Taissa Farmiga as Raven, Stuart Allan as Robin, Tony Todd as Darkseid, Jason O’Mara as Batman, Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman, Shemar Moore as Cyborg, Christopher Gorham as the Flash, Rebecca Romijn as Lois Lane and Rainn Wilson as Lex Luthor.
