Legends of Tomorrow: Sara Lance's Powers, Explained | CBR

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for “Ship Broken,” the latest episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Sara Lance has gotten herself a brand new set of superpowers.

In “Ship Broken,” the latest episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Sara suffered the consequences of looking at Atropos’ true form. As a result, she has gone blind, but she has picked up the power of foresight. This allowed her to discover that Gary’s emotional support dog Gary Jr. was actually from hell and determined to kill everyone on board.

After waking up from a coma, Sara quickly discovered she had gone blind. She was unable to get herself checked out due to the fact the Waverider was disabled, but Charlie quickly diagnosed the problem. “No big deal? Right. You’re the first mortal to ever see a god’s true form and live to tell the tale, and that is no big deal,” she drawled. “So nothing else has been happening, right? There’s no other side effects? Look, I know you’re not being honest with me, Sara. I just want to help.”

“Look, it’s nothing, okay?” Sara insisted. “I just didn’t want to upset anyone. When I touch somebody, I see people stabbed to death, but it’s probably just some unconscious fear that’s been kicked up by the coma. It’s like a nightmare.”

“You’ve lost one kind of vision and you’ve gained another,” Charlie pointed out. “Sara, you’re seeing the future!”

“Look, they’re just nightmares!” Sara insisted, only to have a vision of Mick lying dead. “This can’t be the future, alright? It’s not possible.”

“Why?” Charlie demanded. “You’re a Paragon of Destiny who got radiated by godly light. Why is it so impossible that you’ve gained the gift of foresight?”

Sara finally put the pieces together for herself as she hung out in the med bay. When Gary came to visit her, she brushed his hand, which showed her a vision of herself snapping his neck at the dog’s suggestion. With this foresight, she was able to prevent that from actually happening and immediately sought out Ava.

“I figured it out. It’s Gary’s dog. He’s going to make me kill everyone!” Sara announced. Naturally, Ava and Constantine looked at her like she was crazy, so she elaborated. “Look, I know, but just listen. I can prove to you that I am telling the truth, alright? I had a vision that I killed Gary and then, in real time, I saved him! The fact that he is alive right now proves that I am not lying!”

“Listen, I know that I sound crazy, but you just take me to that dog and you will see that I am not,” she added.

Fortunately, Zari, Nate and Charlie discovered this for themselves at that very same moment. After reviewing some security footage, they realized Gary Jr. was behind the disappearance of the Loom of Fate. He managed to slip away before anyone could do anything about this, but Sara came up with a plan.

“What if we could use my vision to search the ship?” she suggested. With that, she took Constantine’s hand and had a vision of the hell hound killing Mick in the library. They intercepted the dog before he could kill anyone else and Constantine banished him back to hell.

Following this ordeal, the Legends were able to bring Gideon back online. Sara returned to the med bay to get her eyes checked out, but Gideon simply couldn’t come up with a solution. “Scan complete. I do not detect any abnormalities in Captain Lance’s ocular region,” Gideon announced.

“What do you mean, no abnormalities?” Sara demanded, with Ava adding, “Gideon, she’s still blind!”

“I’m sorry, but there’s nothing I can do,” Gideon replied, and the episode concluded on that note.

For the time being, then, Sara will remain blind. Seeing as this was a magical injury, it’s not much of a surprise that the technologically-advanced supercomputer Gideon couldn’t come up with a quick fix. Fortunately, though, this hasn’t been much of an adjustment for her so far. After all, the League of Assassins made her train with a blindfold, so she knows a thing or two about sensing her surroundings. Hopefully, her new skill set will become a valuable asset for the team moving forward; it certainly has the potential to be.

Airing Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan and Jes Macallan.
