Marvel: 5 DC Villains Thor Could Defeat (& 5 He Would Lose To)

Thor, protector of Asgard and Earth, son of Odin, and God of Thunder, is one of Marvel’s most beloved superheroes. In fact, Thor is such a popular character that even Neil DeGrasse Tyson has recently had a discussion about his powers.

Based upon the Norwegian mythological character of the same name, Thor has come up against many different villains and been victorious. In addition to his superhuman speed, strength, agility, and durability, he also has the power to control the weather. His mystic hammer, Mjolnir, grants him the power of flight, the God-blast, Thermo-blast, and the Anti-Force. With his immense power, he could easily defeat many DC villains, but there are a few heavy hitters that he simply couldn’t defeat.

10 WIN: Bane

Bane is one of Batman’s most formidable foes. He crafted his body and mind to be a weapon during his time in prison. His mental powers and spiritual energy are what give him control over his abilities. Thanks to a super-serum called Venom, he has attained some superhero abilities such as superhuman strength and healing powers.

However, without the Venom serum, he is still a man. He requires a tank to dose him with the serum, and eventually, he even swears off of using it. Even with Bane’s use of the Venom serum, Thor could easily defeat Bane with his godlike powers.

9 LOSE: Darkseid

The Demon God of Evil, Darkseid, is one of DC’s most powerful villains. He is an immortal who can warp reality, use telepathy, teleport through time and space, and drain the lifeforce of other god-like beings. From the New Gods race, he wields Omega Beams which can disintegrate matter. He has superhuman speed and strength, and once fought Zeus to a standstill.

Thor would certainly be thwarted by Darkseid. This fearsome villain would be able to drain the lifeforce from him, and even his godly weaponry doesn’t seem like it could withstand Darkseid’s Omega Beams.

8 WIN: Lex Luthor

Lex Luthor, a human businessman and engineer, and is one of Superman’s archenemies although he doesn’t have any inherent superhero capabilities. He did, however, create a Warsuit capable of giving Superman a run for his money. The suit enables him to fly and gives him super-strength, but if the suit is damaged, he is nothing more than a man, no matter his high intellect.

Even with Lex Luthor’s suit, Thor would almost certainly defeat him. His hammer Mjolnir could smash the suit beyond repair, or his Anti-Force blasts could destroy it. Even if Thor didn’t have his weapons, Thor’s powers far outstrip Luthor’s.

7 LOSE: Anti-Monitor

Anti-Monitor is yet another supervillain who makes the list of DC’s most powerful. He’s destroyed multiple universes and wreaked more havoc than any other villain on this list. He has superhuman durability, strength, and size. He can consume the energy of whole universes, as well as of superheroes.

Anti-Monitor would easily be able to defeat Thor, as he could absorb all of his powers. He is basically immortal, as he can use the energy that he absorbs to resurrect himself. He could warp reality to alter any outcome of a battle between him and Thor.

6 WIN: Joker

Despite being the infamous archenemy of Batman, the Joker wouldn’t put up a fight against Thor. The Joker is a psychopathic murderer and mastermind criminal, but his dip in a vat of chemicals didn’t bestow him with any superhuman abilities. Rather, he became disfigured, with his white skin, red mouth, and green hair – which allegedly are the reasons behind his madness.

Thor would have an easy time defeating the Joker; it would be an unfair fight. However, the Joker is a villain worthy of punishing. With Thor’s oath to protect the Earth, it would be his duty to take the Joker out.

5 LOSE: Doomsday

One of Superman’s most formidable enemies, Doomsday, has superhuman speed, strength, and agility. He doesn’t need food, water, or sleep. He has regenerative abilities, and this healing factor basically makes him immortal.

Thor wouldn’t stand much of a chance against Doomsday, as his energy could be absorbed and used against him. Even with an attack bolstered by Mjolnir, Doomsday is able to adapt and evolve to any threat.

4 WIN: Deathstroke

Deathstroke’s natural abilities are enhanced by a serum: he has superhuman speed, strength, and durability, as well as a limited healing factor. He is a master with weaponry, and even temporarily wielded a sword called the God Killer. The God Killer, forged by the Greek god Hephaestus, would be an interesting weapon to use against Mjolnir.

However, without the God Killer, Deathstroke wouldn’t be much of a match for Thor. Thor’s inherent abilities far outstrip those bestowed on Deathstroke by the superhuman serum.

3 LOSE: Trigon

Trigon also makes the list of the most powerful villains in the DC universe. He is an immortal, interdimensional demon who can manipulate reality, use telekinesis and telepathy, project energy, and transmute matter. He can destroy entire universes, planets, and dimensions. His godlike power also allows him to control legions of demons.

Although Thor is a god himself, his power wouldn’t stand up to Trigon’s demonic omniscience. In the Marvel universe, Thor is able to defeat Mephisto, a demon from hell, but when it comes to an all-powerful cosmic demon, it seems he wouldn’t put up much of a fight.

2 WIN: Ra’s Al Ghul

Ra’s Al Ghul is another of Batman’s recurring foes, and with his combat skills and advanced weaponry, he has given him a pretty hard time. Like Thor, Ra’s Al Ghul has an extended lifespan and the ability to heal from injury. However, these abilities come from visiting the Lazarus Pits in the mountains of Switzerland.

While Thor needs to eat the Golden Apples of Idunn on occasion to maintain his prolonged lifespan, it’s not very often, unlike Ra’s Al Ghul’s frequent visits to the Lazarus Pits. Furthermore, Thor has a set of superhuman powers that would render Ra’s Al Ghul’s limited abilities useless.

1 LOSE: Nekron

Nekron, a villain who embodies death, is one of the rulers of Hell. He isn’t a living entity, but rather the manifestation of darkness, and he’s been around since the inception of the universe. He is able to control armies of the dead and has unlimited power. He has the ability to destroy the universe, and even to thwart Anti-Monitor, who is one of the most powerful villains in the DC universe.

Up against a demon of such immeasurable power, Thor wouldn’t stand a chance. Although he is a powerful god in his own right, he is only the God of Thunder, and much of his power comes from Mjolnir.
