Mission: Impossible 7 Still Has One Major Casting to Unveil | CBR

The director of Mission: Impossible 7 has revealed there’s still one potential A-list casting to be revealed ahead of the action movie’s release.

Speaking to THR, Christopher McQuarrie explained there’s one casting he’s been working on. “There is someone we were talking to before the world blew up,” he said. “An actor I was very excited about. I don’t know where that is, because we had talked days before [the shutdown] and it was an incredibly exciting casting coup.” However, McQuarrie isn’t willing to reveal who it is or whether the casting is still on the cards in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Aside from Cruise, the Mission: Impossible movies have boasted some serious talent over the years. Famous faces including Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Renner and Henry Cavill have all starred. McQuarrie’s latest words hint that it could be someone new, however.

Although Cruise has led the Mission: Impossible movies since 1996, the franchise has found a whole new fanbase thanks to McQuarrie’s involvement. After a five-year hiatus between the third and fourth movies, McQuarrie came on board Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol for an uncredited rewrite. Since then, he’s become the de facto overseer of the franchise and has signed on to direct a seventh and eighth movie. Mission: Impossible 7 will be McQuarrie’s third time in the director’s chair, and it’s the first of a two-part story arc for Hunt and the rest of the IMF.

Mission: Impossible 7 is already packed with both familiar and new faces. Another notable return sees Henry Czerny reprise his role as Eugene Kittridge from Brian De Palma’s first movie. For now, fans are left speculating on who McQuarrie’s mysterious star is.

The next two Mission: Impossible movies have been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but with a recent boom in casting news and McQuarrie still teasing another mystery cast member, there’s plenty going on behind the scenes of the high-adrenaline franchise.

Mission: Impossible 7 stars Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Czerny, Nicolas Hoult, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, and Shea Whigham. The film arrives in theaters Nov. 19, 2021, while Mission: Impossible 8 releases on Nov. 4, 2022.

Mission: Impossible 7's Christopher McQuarrie has revealed a potentially huge casting for the action movie that even the other stars don't know about.
