Nejire Hado is one of the more recently introduced characters in the My Hero Academia series. She is a part of U.A. High School’s Big Three, the top hero candidates in the school consisting of her, Mirio Togata, and Tamaki Amajiki.
While the other two students have had quite a bit of spotlight placed upon them during their time in the series, Nejire has not had as much time to shine. This list will be looking at this underlooked hero and give some facts about her that many may not be aware of.
10 SHE WASN’T ALWAYS ONE OF THE BEST
Nejire may be one of the top hero candidates in all of the nation but she wasn’t always like that. In fact, none of the Big Three were always looked at as the best in the school. It is said that neither of these great students and heroes of the future ranked well in their second-year U.A. Sports Festival.
Not to mention that their odd personalities are said to have never left a good impression with those they encounter. However, they overcame this stuff with their great usage of their quirks.
9 MANY CONSIDER HER A VERY UNDERUTILIZED CHARACTER
Among the fanbase of My Hero Academia, it is commonly agreed that Nejire is a great character full of wasted potential. This is taken from the fact that she is the only character of the Big Three to not get any real screentime as a hero, even leading to people simply calling Mirio and Tamaki the “Big Two”.
Sadly, Nejire’s biggest moment as a character was the beauty pageant that she took part in. Will she get a chance at redemption?
8 HER POWERS ARE REMINISCENT OF SHOCKER FROM SPIDER-MAN
While many may think of Nejire as more of an electric-based hero like the Spider-Man villain Electro, she’s actually more in line with his nemesis Shocker. Not only are her gauntlets similar to the ones he uses to access his suit’s ability but their energy waves are similar as well.
They also use their powers to enhance their movement options, both blasting towards the ground to allow themselves a good amount of time to lift off the ground and take flight.
7 HER POWER TAKES VITALITY
Nejire’s quirk isn’t something that she can simply do at will or for free. Her power is actually one of those that takes up her vitality, as it is transformed into energy that she discharges as an energy wave.
As it fires, this energy that comes straight from her stamina comes out as golden rings of energy. The stamina amount that is being converted can be changed by her whenever she pleases.
6 SHE HAS A CLOSER RELATIONSHIP WITH TAMAKI THAN MIRIO
From the lines of dialogue that Nejire has with her Big Three colleagues, it can be noted that she is much closer to Tamaki than Mirio. This is noted by how Tamaki calls Mirio by his first name while she calls him by only his last.
This doesn’t mean that Nejire doesn’t care for Mirio, as she actively tries to cheer him up during his situation involving Eri. All of the members of the Big Three have a close relationship, some are just closer than others.
5 THE BOYS AT U.A. DON’T THINK SHE’S “SEXY”
When Nejire was introduced into the My Hero Academia series, the fandom completely fell in love with her adorable design. This was mirrored in the actual series with the talk of the boys at U.A.
However, unlike some of the real-life fans of the series, these male students don’t really classify Nejire as one of the girls in the school on the sexy side. They put her more in the category of a “cute kind” girl.
4 HER POWERS ARE SLOW BUT SHE HAS A WAY AROUND THAT
While it may seem that Nejire’s power is one of the most powerful around, it has many drawbacks. Not only do her abilities exert a high toll on her vitality but they also aren’t very fast once she unleashes them.
This means that Nejire has to find creative ways around this weakness, one of which involves her blasting the ground and using her abilities to take to the skies to keep up with the opponent.
3 HER STATS ARE VERY HIGH
The My Hero Academia: Ultra Analysis Book is a book full of 288 pages of information on the series and data on over 200 characters featured. Of course, one of those characters is Nejire Hado.
In this book, Nejire’s stats are shown off and illustrate just how skilled of a hero she is. In fact, each of her stats in the power, speed, technique, intelligence, and eccentricity sections are all just about perfect.
2 HER NAME REFERENCES HER POWER
Nejire’s surname actually is a big reference to her powers. Her quirk is obviously called Wave Motion and her surname actually contains the kanji for the word “wavelength”.
It also contains kanji for the words “motion, change, and confusion,” which come together to spell the Japanese word for “wave.” Her first name in hiragana means “distortion” as well.
1 NEJIRE ISN’T THE MOST POPULAR IN THE SERIES
It had been found out in the fourth My Hero Academia character popularity poll that Nejire Hado sadly isn’t even close to being one of the most popular characters in the series.
Nejire ranked 64th on the poll, which reflects her underutilized role in the series. This obviously resulted in her being a quickly forgotten character for many viewers of the series.
Despite being one of U.A.'s Big Three, Nejire Hado is rarely seen in My Hero Academia. Here are some lesser-known facts about the Wave Motion hero.
