To celebrate Star Wars Day, director Rian Johnson posted several behind the scenes photos of his time on Star Wars Episode VII: The Last Jedi. “Feel the love,” Johnson tweeted, using the “May the 4th” hashtag.
The photos showcase Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker with the original Yoda puppet, as well as Finn (John Boyega) and Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran). Hamill is also shown with Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren on the set that would become the planet Crait. The final photo shows Anthony Daniels, out of his C-3PO getup, on the bridge of the starship Raddus.
The Last Jedi was released in 2017 to critical and commercial acclaim, although it also sparked an ongoing debate between certain segments of the Star Wars fandom. Johnson’s photos, in addition to showing the hard work that goes into the moments that make it to screen, appear to be a token of the love that the director has for Star Wars. The cast and crew definitely seem to be enjoying themselves.
Johnson was tapped to develop a Star Wars trilogy, disconnected from the Skywalker Saga. He would be writing and directing the first film in the trilogy, but currently there are no further details on this project.
