At this point in time, Riverdale is famous for its various “WTF” moments. One of those moments came in Season 4, when Jughead’s teacher, Mr. Chipping jumped out of a window seemingly out of nowhere. Fans were surprised and apparently, so was Sam Witwer, who played Mr. Chipping.
Witwer told io9 how he reacted when he got the script, commenting on his confusion and amusement surrounding the scene. “As for why that character jumps out a window, I have no idea,” he said, adding, “But I read the script and laughed. I was like, ‘Right, of course. Of course he does.'”
Witwer also threw some shade towards the show, saying, “I’d love to say I had deep thoughts about the whole thing, but I just don’t think that’s really the way they work over there.”
During the March 11th episode, long after Chipping had died, the truth about his death came out. The Baxter Brothers ghostwriters were only allowed to write the series after they committed the “perfect murder.” Feeling guilty over his inability to protect Jughead from going through that, Chipping jumped out of the window and committed suicide during class.
Airing Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Riverdale stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Casey Cott, Vanessa Morgan, Mark Consuelos, Skeet Ulrich, Marisol Nichols and Madchen Amick.
