Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld has strong words for Kevin Feige and has called out the Marvel Studios President for not including Deadpool 3 in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speaking to Inverse during a lengthy quarantine interview, Liefeld shared his thoughts on Phase 4. “It’s the first time I go, ‘Hey, Feige, did you even have a plan? Your plan was Eternals and Shang-Chi? That was your plan? And Black Widow?’” said Liefeld. “So they close the door, Chris Evans says goodbye, Robert Downey Jr. says goodbye, Black Widow falls off a cliff says goodbye, they almost lose [Spider-Man actor] Tom Holland to Sony… but you’re a genius, Marvel, you’re a genius.”
Liefeld championed the franchise under 20th Century Fox, but his opinion on Marvel Studios is much harsher. Liefeld went on to say Feige has “zero” plans for the character and said he “can’t be excited” for the prospect of Deadpool 3 coming out in the next three to four years. Liefeld’s latest interview comes just after he blamed Marvel Studios for a lack of development on Deadpool 3.
While both Tim Miller’s Deadpool and David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 were both record-breaking successes, things have been quiet when it comes to a possible third movie. Following Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox, Deadpool is the sole survivor as movies focusing on X-Force, Gambit, and Kitty Pryde are rumored to have been shelved. Ryan Reynolds only confirmed Deadpool 3 is in active development at Marvel Studios last December, but it doesn’t sound like the movie is a priority.
