Roland Emmerich's Moonfall Recruits Halle Berry | CBR

Halle Berry has joined the cast of Moonfall, the upcoming science-fiction film from Independence Day director Roland Emmerich.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that Berry will play a NASA administrator and former astronaut who has to cope with the moon being forced out of orbit, setting it on a path to crash into the Earth. A team is sent to the lunar surface in an attempt to avert the pending disaster. Berry joins Josh Gad, who previously signed on to the project. Gad is an “eccentric genius” who discovers what happened with the moon.

Emmerich co-wrote the film with Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen, co-writers of 2012. Emmerich is co-producing through his company Centropolis with Kloser under his Street Entertainment label. The film will be distributed by Lionsgate in North America, and production is slated to begin in the fall, with its debut in North America set for 2021.

Berry wrapped filming on her directorial debut, Bruised, in December. She plays a mixed-martial arts fighter making a comeback against younger, stronger competition while reuniting with her 6-year-old son. Bruised is in post-production.
