Joe and Anthony Russo have revealed which Avengers: Endgame moment had them reaching for tissues and tearing up in theaters.
The Russos highlighted the jaw-dropping moment the “snapped” heroes returned and joined the fight against Thanos during a Twitter watch-along. The directors shared a video from when they snuck into UCLA’s Recency Village Theater for Endgame‘s opening night and captured the return of everyone who was dusted in Avengers: Infinity War.
The short clip showed a downtrodden Captain America preparing to face off against Thanos with his last bit of energy. As the audience reaction displayed, it was one of Endgame‘s biggest scenes. Fans were quick to thank the pair in the comments and give their own thoughts on the emotional moment. It’s important to remember the portal scene was also a prelude to the iconic “Avengers, Assemble” line.
With the epic conclusion to Avengers: Infinity War hitting cinemas a year ago, the Russo Brothers are looking back at their work and celebrating the highest-grossing movie of all time. Although there were plenty of emotional moments packed into Endgame‘s runtime, the directing duo admitted one hit home harder than most.
Endgame packed an emotional punch with moments like Black Widow’s Vormir sacrifice, Tony Stark’s “I love you 3,ooo” line and Steve Rogers’ dance with Peggy Carter. However, out of all the movie’s most memorable scenes, the return of the Infinity War‘s casualties struck a chord with the Russo Brothers. Even though many presumed Endgame would find a way to bring the dead heroes back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the movie kept the exact details surrounding their resurrection a secret.
Joe and Anthony Russo have been vocal on social media to share their thoughts on Avengers: Endgame‘s anniversary. As well as confirming the resurrection scene had them tearing up, they also shared a behind-the-scenes look at Chris Evans’ last day on set and the first time Brie Larson met the rest of the Avengers. While everyone will have their own thoughts on which scene is the most tear-jerking, at least fans now know what the Russos think.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Danai Gurira as Okoye and Bradley Cooper as Rocket, with Gwyneth Paltrow Pepper Potts, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Benedict Wong as Wong, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Josh Brolin as Thanos.
