Ryan Reynolds couldn’t help but poke fun at 2011’s Green Lantern during a heartfelt commencement speech.
The star shared the speech on his official YouTube page, which was done for the Kitsilano Secondary School he previously attended. Around the video’s 3:00 mark, Reynolds said, “Some of you might consider me successful. I don’t know. Some of you may have seen Green Lantern.”
Green Lantern released in 2011 and showed Reynolds as a pilot named Hal Jordan, who comes in possession of a Green Lantern ring. The film featured a number of popular characters from the Green Lantern comics, including Sinestro, Tomar-Re and Kilowog. Despite being a popular DC character, Green Lantern received mixed to negative reviews and didn’t do as well as anticipated at the box office.
Reynolds has made a habit at poking fun of Green Lantern every chance he gets, even recently joking that a fan should not watch the film. Both of Reynolds’ Deadpool films also feature hilarious references to Green Lantern.
Reynolds will return to star in an upcoming third installment of the Deadpool film franchise, which will be produced by Marvel Studios. Meanwhile, DC is planning a new film called Green Lantern Corps as well as a Green Lantern live-action series set to release on HBO Max.
