Scream 5 could see the return of the franchise’s final girl Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell.
In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Campbell revealed she’s currently in talks to reprise the role of Prescott, adding the timing has been difficult due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. But she and filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Oplin and Tyler Gillett are negotiating a deal.
Campbell also revealed the two filmmakers wrote her a touching letter about horror film director, writer and producer Wes Craven, who passed away in 2015 just four weeks after his 76th birthday. The letter spoke of their view of Craven as an inspiration and how much they wanted to honor him with the new film.
Of the Scream franchise, Campbell says she is grateful and always looks forward to stepping back into the shoes of Sidney Prescott.
Bettinelli-Oplin and Gillett’s most recent film Ready or Not was Certified Fresh by Rotten Tomatoes, earning an 88% rating from critics. Campbell is currently set to star in Candian drama film Castle in the Ground, alongside Alex Wolff, Imogen Poots, Tom Cullen, Keir Gilchrist and Kiowa Gorden. The film releases May 15 digitally.
Scream 5 does not have a set release date and has not released any further casting information.
