The PlayStation 5 is still slated for its global launch this holiday season and Sony has released a new teaser heralding a presentation of the console and its first wave of titles.
A short video offers a glimpse at the hardware for the upcoming home console, setting the presentation date for Thursday June 4 at 1pm PST as Sony provides a sneak peek at the next-generation of video gaming.
A written statement from Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan confirmed that next week’s presentation will offer more than technical specifications for the new console and its intuitive controller, but also showcase the video games available for it. Ryan teased that that presentation will feature both major studio titles and games developed by smaller, independent studios.
After unveiling the technical specifications for the console this past March, Sony announced that while the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic had impacted the supply chain and factories for the console’s production, it was still on track to meet its holiday season release date. Sony also announced that the PlayStation 5 would provide backwards compatibility with many of the most popular titles on the PlayStation 4 at launch.
