Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland is officially working on a Star Wars Disney+ series.
StarWars.com announced Headland is writing, executive producing and showrunning the new series. However, details about the project — including which character will lead it — are being kept under wraps for now.
Late last month, reports about Headland’s Star Wars project surfaced online. According to these reports, the project will be led by a female character and will take place at a different point in the Star Wars timeline than projects currently in development. However, those details have not been confirmed at this time.
Headland isn’t the only newcomer to the Star Wars universe. Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi will also helm a new Star Wars feature film with 1917 scribe Krysty Wilson-Cairns co-writing the script with him.
Future Star Wars projects for Disney+ include a Cassian Andor series featuring Diego Luna reprising his role as the titular Rebel spy from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and an Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor. Release dates for both series are currently unknown, though Star Wars: Cassian Andor is believed to premiere in 2021.
