Yen Press has officially announced two new Star Wars manga series. The first is an adaptation of author Claudia Gray’s young adult novel Leia, Princess of Alderaan. The second, meanwhile, is an adaptation of the popular Disney XD animated series Star Wars Rebels.
Gray returns to pen Yen Press’ Star Wars Leia, Princess of Alderaan. She is joined on the manga adaptation by artist Haruichi Furudate. Set prior to the events of the original 1977 Star Wars film, Leia, Princess of Alderaan tells the story of how Leia Organa came to join the Rebel Alliance in their fight against the Galactic Empire. The young princess is preparing to establish herself as the heir to Alderaan’s throne, only to discover that her parents are leading the rebels behind closed doors. She is then forced to choose between her responsibility to her home planet and her responsibility to the galaxy at large. Gray’s novel was first released in September of 2017 as part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi publishing initiative.
Yen Press’ Star Wars Rebels is written and illustrated by Akira Aoki. As many Star Wars fans know, Rebels also takes place between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The animated series follows Ezra Bridger, a young Force-sensitive con artist from the planet Lothal, who joins the crew of the Ghost in their early efforts to push back against the Empire and foster a proper Rebel Alliance. Ezra is trained in the ways of the Jedi by surviving Padawan Kanan Jarrus as they embark on various adventures alongside Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios and the astromech droid Chopper. Rebels premiered on Disney XD in October of 2014. The show ran for a total of 75 episodes across four seasons, concluding its run in March of 2018.
Yen Press’ Star Wars Leia, Princess of Alderaan and Star Wars Rebels will each be available both digitally and physically. At this time, neither manga series has an official launch date. However, Yen Press assures release info will be made available soon.
