Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi will direct and co-write a new Star Wars film.
StarWars.com announced the news on May the 4, while also announcing a new Star Wars television show is heading to Disney+ by writer Leslye Headland (Russian Doll).
Reports of Waititi being approached to helm a Star Wars movie first popped up in January. The Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit director also helmed the Season 1 finale of Disney+’s breakout series, The Mandalorian, which has already been renewed for a Season 2. The Star Wars original Disney+ series is reportedly already working on Season 3.
Working with Waititi on the screenplay for his Star Wars film is Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917, Last Night in Soho). She received a BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film of the Year for 1917.
