Thursday marked the anniversary of the publication of Action Comics #1, which debuted Superman and kicked off both the Golden Age of Comics and the superhero genre as a whole over 80 years ago.
However, it seems that Jon Cryer, the actor who portrays the Man of Tomorrow’s greatest villain Lex Luthor in the CW’s Supergirl, couldn’t resist poking fun at his character’s nemesis’s birthday announcement.
The original tweet by writer/game designer David Gallaher celebrates the birthday of DC’s premier hero. Cryer responded, “He’s not so great,” followed with an emoji of a bald man, a reference to the appearance of the character he plays.
In a follow up tweet from Gallaher, he showed that other Lex Luthor actors have joined in on taking potshots at the Man of Steel. Clancy Brown (Superman: TAS, Justice League Unlimited), Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville) and even Sam Witwer, who has played multiple Superman villains on TV, all had choice words to share for the iconic hero’s birthday.
Supergirl will return with all-new episodes on May 3rd; production on the fifth season halted due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
