In the new poster, Crystal Reed’s Abigail “Abby” Arcane can be seen in the foreground as Swamp Thing looms in the background. “Swamp Thing Season 1 is coming this fall to The CW!” read the poster’s accompanying tweet.
Produced by horror movie legend James Wan, Swamp Thing originally premiered on the DC Universe streaming app in May 2019. The series brought audiences an origin story for the creature, centered around biologist Alec Holland, who died in a Louisana swamp only to seemingly re-emerge as Swamp Thing. It ran for a total of 10 episodes with the last premiering on August 2, 2019.
News of Swamp Thing‘s cancelation came before the first season finished airing. However, Swamp Thing had gained such popularity that a movement began on social media, calling for the series to return by using the hashtag, #SaveSwampThing. Swamp Thing currently has a rating of 94% on the review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes.
The CW will be airing the first season of Swamp Thing. It should be noted that a second season has not been officially announced.
Swamp Thing chronicles the life of a botanist transformed into a human avatar of all the plant life on Earth and his long quest to regain his humanity as he defends the world from supernatural threats. Available now on DC Universe, the series stars Crystal Reed, Andy Bean, Derek Mears, Jennifer Beals, Henderson Wade, Will Patton, Virginia Madsen, Jeryl Prescott and Kevin Durand.
