The 10 Most Anticipated Spring 2020 Romance Anime (& Where You Can Stream Them)

A new anime season means new titles for fans to enjoy, and for fans of the romance genre, it means new couples to ship. This season there are plenty of new couples and the return of some familiar faces. With love triangles and reverse-harems, these are the romance anime to look forward to.

All the anime on this list have some element of romance in them. They all will begin airing during the spring 2020 season. Anime that aired prior and continue into the season will not be considered. Be sure to check out any series that interest you.

10 Wave, Listen to Me! (Funimation, Animelab)

Kicking off the list is Wave, Listen to Me! Streaming on Funimation and Animelab, the series follows Minare Koda. After drinking one-night, Minare confesses her problems to a radio station worker she meets while out. The radio worker airs her story causing her to storm her way into the radio station with anger. There she meets the radio station director, Kanetsugu Matou, who convinces her to host her own talk show. This opens a new opportunity in the world of radio. Wave, Listen to Me! will be adapted by Sunrise studio.

9 Nakineko

Nakineko is an anime film following Miyo Sasaki. Nicknamed Muge, she is in love with her classmate Kento Hinode. Muge really wants Kento to notice her, but just can’t find his attention. She somehow comes to the realization that turning herself into a cat would be the best course of action, but when she does, she becomes stuck as one.

This anime film is set to come out on June 5, 2020. Nakineko will be adapted by Studio Colorido. It hasn’t been confirmed who will license this film at time of writing.

8 Arte (Funimation)

Arte will be joining the Funimation lineup this spring. The series follows Arte, a girl with a passion and drive to become an artist. Born into an aristocratic family during the 16th century Renaissance in Florence, it is uncommon for a women to be an artist. Running away from home and leaving her family behind, Arte meets Leo, a painter. Leo had a poor upbringing living as a beggar during his childhood years. However, he agrees to take in Arte as his apprentice, kickstarting the relationship between the two. Arte will be adapted by studio Seven Arcs.

7 Hamefura: My Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! (Crunchyroll)

Hamefura: My Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! will be streaming on Crunchyroll this spring season. The anime follows Katarina Claes living in the world of her favorite game Fortune Lover. After being transported after dead, Katarina remembers that she was once a 17-year-old otaku in her past life.

Using her knowledge of Fortune Lover, she realizes that she has been reincarnated as the villainess of the game and on a path to be killed or exiled and must do anything she can to change her fate. Hamefura: My Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! will be adapted by Silver Link. studio.

6 Sing Yesterday For Me (Crunchyroll)

 

Sing Yesterday For Me joins Crunchyroll’s extensive lineup of anime. Rikuo Uozumi is a college graduate but doesn’t have much motivation in life. He works at a convenience store watching each day pass by. At work, he meets an interesting girl by the name of Haru Nonaka. Haru has a pet raven and takes interest in Rikuo from their first meeting. Not quite over his ex-girlfriend Shinako Morinome, Rikuo runs into her, hoping to rekindle an old relationship. To make matters more interesting, Shinako and Haru end up knowing each other. Sing Yesterday For Me will be adapted by studio Doga Kobo.

5 Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld 2nd Season (Hulu, Crunchyroll, Funimation)

Starting later in the spring 2020 season, Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld 2nd Season will be released on April 26, 2020. Kazuto Kirigaya, better known as Kirito, makes his way back to Hulu, Funimation, and Crunchyroll this season for the second part of the War of Underworld arc.

Kirito, Asuna Yuuki, and Alice Zuberg must find a way to defeat the Dark Territory as it invades the Human Empire. Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld 2nd Season will be adapted by studio A-1 Pictures. The anime is projected to air for 11 episodes.

4 Given (Film)

The final film on this list, Given’s anime film adaptation is a sequel to the summer 2019 anime adaptation. Given originally aired on Crunchyroll, so its likely the film will be licensed by them too, however, it hasn’t been confirmed at the time of writing. Given is a boys-love series following Ritsuka Uenoyama and Mafuyu Satou. Now that Mafuyu has joined the band, he looks to improve his song writing to create some major hits. Ritsuka has come to understand Mafuyu’s feelings towards his past and who he now wants to be in the present and wants to support him in creating music and becoming a new person. Given’s sequel film will be released on May 16, 2020.

3 Fruits Basket 2nd Season (Crunchyroll, Funimation, VRV)

Streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and VRV this spring 2020 season, Fruits Basket returns for its second season. After a very successful reboot, Fruits Basket follows Tooru (Also written as Toru) Honda, who has moved into the Souma household.

Months after the first season, the series is heading into the Eternal Banquet arc. As the series goes on Tooru inches closer to picking a love interest. If you’re a fan of reverse harems, this is the series for you. Fruits Basket 2nd Season will be adapted by studio TMS Entertainment.

2 SNAFU: My Teen Romantic Comedy 3 (Hidive)

As the only Hidive entry this season, SNAFU: My Teen Romantic Comedy is back for a third season. The anime follows Hachiman Hikigaya, Yui Yuigahama, and Yukino Yukinoshita, all members of the Volunteer Service Club. Known for helping their classmates with problems, the club takes an unconventional approach to solving issues. Their solutions are often seen as inappropriate, but the club always has good intentions. SNAFU: My Teen Romantic Comedy 3 will be adapted by studio Feel.

1 Kaguya-sama: Love is War 2 (Funimation)

Rounding out the list is Kaguya-sama: Love is War 2. Streaming on Funimation, the anime follows Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane, the president and vice president at their school. The two tsunderes are in love with each other, but in typical tsundere fashion, they refuse to confess their feelings. Instead they each try to get the other to admit it. The two masters of manipulation use games and tactics but overall achieve a stalemate. The sequel pits the two back at it again for more games and antics. Kaguya-sama: Love is War 2 will be adapted by studio A-1 Pictures.
