New photos from the upcoming Netflix film, The Old Guard, have been released. The stills showcase Charlize Theron’s Andromache of Scythia in the present day.
The photos show Theron’s Andy with her squad of fellow immortals, as they work to save the world from all manner of threats. Theron, who also produces the film, talked to Vanity Fair about her character, who appears to be partially shaped by exhaustion after decades of trying to safeguard humanity.
Theron explained, “It was important to feel the weight of thousands and thousands of years on her… The worst part for her is just feeling like she’s not doing anything.” She continued to elaborate on her character’s world view, “She’s lost faith, not just in herself but in humanity. I think a lot of people can relate to that at this moment in time.”
On The Old Guard book, Theron stated, “From the first moment I read Rucka’s graphic novel, I felt like there was great potential to make this thing feel really very relevant,” adding, “Is what we’re doing enough? Is what we’re doing actually changing anything? Are we making better or are we making the world worse?”
The Old Guard is based on the graphic novel of the same name, written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Leandro Fernandez. Rucka has penned the screenplay for the upcoming film and Love and Basketball’s Gina Prince-Bythewood is directing.
Co-produced by Skydance Media, The Old Guard will be available to stream on Netflix July 10th.
