Next year will see famed Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn enter the world of DC Comics with the release of The Suicide Squad, which features the return of the popular antihero team to the silver screen. While details regarding the movie’s plot are currently unknown, Gunn has been able to confirm the film’s quality.
In response to a fan on Twitter asking if The Suicide Squad would have a 4k DI, Gunn replied,”Yes we’re finishing [The Suicide Squad] (and the VFX) in true 4K (as opposed to finishing in 2K and up-ressing for 4K releases, which is more common). Gunn added that The Suicide Squad is “a colossal film which will more than make use of all this.”
Another fan asked if Gunn was shooting the film with the RED 8K Weapon camera as was done with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Gunn answered the the film had been shot on the RED Ranger Monstro 8K VV, the RED Ranger 8K VV and the RED Weapon 8K VV cameras. He noted that that the film was the first to utilize the new RED Komodo camera.
“The Red cameras give the film the intense look we needed and they’re small enough to utilize some new rigs invented for the movie (some descendants of the Stabileye, first used on Vol. 2, later used on the beautiful 1917).” Gunn concluded, “So excited about where the look landed.”
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Joaquin Cosio, Nathan Fillion, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Idris Elba and Michael Rooker.
