As May 2020 continues, the regular 2019-2020 television season is coming to an end while summer television is gearing up to premiere. This new wave of trailers is coupled with video game companies continuing to announce and promote upcoming titles that will be released throughout the summer and early fall.
Here are all the biggest trailers, promos and teasers released over the course of this past week.
One of NBC’s most popular series is The Blacklist, which concludes its seventh season this week. Due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, filming on the show was suspended, so the creative team opted to use a graphic novel inspired presentation to complete the season finale’s unfinished sequences. The trailer for the episode shows the two styles together as Red moves forward with his latest betrayal.
The Blacklist stars James Spader, Megan Boone, Diego Klattenhoff, Harry Lennix, Amir Arison, Hisham Tawfiq and Laura Sohn, airing on NBC.
While there is currently no announced premiere date for The Boys Season 2, the Amazon Prime Video original series still took the time to celebrate Mother’s Day. A truly creepy new promo has Homelander explore his supremely unhealthy mommy issues with Madelyn Stillwell, putting the whole holiday in a decidedly unsettling new light.
Amazon Studios’ The Boys stars Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as the Female, Erin Moriarty as Annie January, Chace Crawford as the Deep, Antony Starr as Homelander and Simon Pegg as Hughie’s dad. A Season 2 premiere date has not yet been announced.
One of the most popular horror franchises to come out of Japan is Ju-On, better known to North American audiences as The Grudge. The franchise is being adapted for television, with a Japanese-language original series coming to Netflix this summer. The show will reveal the origins of the haunted house that contains spirits that relentlessly pursue those unfortunate enough to cross their path. The announcement trailer presents events in a documentary style, exploring the curse’s history.
Directed by Sho Miyake (And Your Bird Can Sing), The Grudge will premiere on Netflix on July 3. The series stars Yoshiyoshi Arakawa, Yuina Kuroshima, Ririka and Kana Kurashina.
As Legends of Tomorrow heads towards the conclusion of its fifth season, the next episode of the Arrowverse series has the time-traveling team channel the popular horror-comedy film Shaun of the Dead. In the promo for the season’s thirteenth episode, titled “I Am Legends,” the team is trapped in John Constantine’s London home when the British capital finds itself in the throes of a zombie apocalypse.
Airing Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan and Jes Macallan.
The popular Mafia trilogy of open-world crime games is getting a fully remastered compilation to be released by 2K Games. Collecting the original 2002 video game and its subsequent 2010 and 2016 sequels, a teaser trailer for the remastered collection was released, which follows the original game’s protagonist, Tony Angelo, as he navigates the world of 1930s organized crime. The clip also hints at a bigger announcement later this month.
Developed by 2K Games, the remastered Mafia: Trilogy will be released for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
This month sees the release of a massive free update to Mortal Kombat 11, with new story mode content set after the fighting game’s original campaign and the inclusion of three new fighters, including RoboCop, who Peter Weller has returned to voice. A new gameplay trailer shows all three new characters in action, unleashing brutal special moves on their opponents.
Developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Mortal Kombat 11 is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows and Google Stadia. Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath goes on sale digitally May 26.
One of the biggest fan-favorite spinoffs to Nintendo’s flagship Mario franchise is Paper Mario, which reimagines the hero plumber as a cut-out paper figure navigating a similarly craft-oriented landscape. The spinoff line comes to the Nintendo Switch this July with Paper Mario: The Origami King. The announcement trailer revealed origami-inspired puzzles and gameplay as Mario sets out to rescue Princess Peach from the new villain King Olly.
Paper Mario: The Origami King releases July 17 for the Nintendo Switch.
One of the most buzzed-about original series on CBS All Access is Jordan Peele and Simon Kinberg’s revival of The Twilight Zone. The anthology series, which is hosted by Peele himself, returns for its second season next month, with a debut trailer showcasing its all-star cast in their own sinister and surreal standalone stories where they venture into the unknown.
Hosted and produced by Jordan Peele, The Twilight Zone returns for Season 2 June 25 on CBS All Access.
As the regular 2019-2020 television season ends, a new wave of trailers have been released to promote upcoming video games and summer TV shows.
