Venom's Stegman and Cates Debut New Superhero Universe | CBR

Writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Stegman have redefined the mythology of Venom, introducing concepts such as codexes and Knull, God of the Symbiotes. Now, they’ve turned their attention to creating an entirely new superhero universe.

During a live version of his Steg-Man and His Amazing Friends podcast, Stegman and Cates created two entirely new characters for a project called “Bad Kids.” The sketches feature a new character named Dreadnaught, whose alter ego Principal Martin heads a school for the titular Bad Kids.

Martin himself looks like a standard principal, with thinning hair and a plain suit, yet his face is fixed in a maddening stare. Dreadnaught, on the other hand, is a terrifying creature; huge, hulking and horned, with chains and spikes hanging off his armor. No one would want to spend the afternoon in detention with him. “We know, we need a new name,” Stegman said on Twitter while showcasing the character designs.

Stegman and Cates are auctioning off both sketches of Principal Martin and Dreadnaught. The auction lasts until Monday and the winner will take home both sketches, each signed by the creators.
