While Akira Toriyama’s long-running Dragon Ball franchise features some of the strongest characters in the history of media, that doesn’t mean they always win their fights easily. In fact, there are quite a few enemies the Z-Fighters have majorly struggled to defeat. In this video, we’re breaking down the strongest enemies the Z-Fighters have taken on in the franchise.
We’re opening the list with Frieza. The villain is something of the gold standard for the franchise’s bad guys. After a ton of build up, Frieza absolutely didn’t disappoint, taking down some of the strongest fighters in the Dragon Ball universe like they were nothing. He’s also a villain that just hasn’t gone away. While Goku did best Frieza on Namek, the villain has since returned as both mecha and golden Frieza. While they haven’t quite lived up to the hype, Frieza proved himself in the Tournament of Power and used Broly against both Goku and Vegeta. Despite some pretty long absences, Frieza is still in the game, having never really been defeated permanently, so there’s a good chance the Z-Fighters are going to have to take on Frieza again in the future, and his best days may still be in front of him.

Dragon Ball Super was the most recent installment in the franchise, not counting the original net animation Super Dragon Ball Heroes. Although it’s unclear just when — or if — the series will return, the Dragon Ball franchise is popular, so it’s unlikely to stay gone for long. The manga currently expands on the ending of Dragon Ball Super, taking Goku and Vegeta into space to fight against the energy-absorbing Moro. However, it’s unclear if when the anime returns it will actually pull from that plotline.
