Vin Diesel has teased that a sequel to The Last Witch Hunter is being written.
“Some of the best scripts will be written during this time,” Diesel wrote on Instagram in a post that features him as the titular witch hunter.
In March, Diesel confirmed a sequel was in the works. “Lionsgate is coming and saying, ‘We’re putting a writer on for the next one’,” he said. “That’s kinda cool! …And this is just recent, by the way. But it’s funny that you mentioned Last Witch Hunter because I’m in a meeting with Lionsgate and they’re actively creating the sequel to The Last Witch Hunter.”
Released in 2015, The Last Witch Hunter follows Kaulder, an immortal witch hunter played by Diesel who keeps the peace between witches and humans and executes the more malevolent witches who threaten mankind. Diesel based much of Kaulder’s backstory on a Dungeons & Dragons character he created.
The film was panned critically, earning 17 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed just $146.93 million worldwide on a $90 million budget. However, it’s found a loyal cult following in the time since.
Directed by Breck Eisner, The Last Witch Hunter stars Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood, Michael Caine and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.
While quarantined due to COVID-19, Vin Diesel has posted a photo on Instagram teasing a script for a sequel to his cult film The Last Witch Hunter.
