WARNING: the following article contains spoilers for season 3, episode 6 of Westworld, “Decoherence”.
Season 3 of Westworld has presented multiple twists over the course of six episodes. William, aka The Man in Black (Ed Harris), is the latest character to become enshrouded in mystery.
Speaking to Vulture over the phone, Harris discussed the journey his character has taken so far in Season 3 and whether or not William is actually a host.
When asked if the show’s creators, Johnathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, told him about William potentially being a host, Harris admitted that he doesn’t know much. He said, “They pretty much leave it up in the air.” Harris then added, “Being a person who enjoys doing theater and making it new and fresh every night, I’d just as soon know the full arc of my character. But, unfortunately, I do not.”
The most recent episode, “Decoherence,” saw William locked in a mental institution, stripped of his wealth and status by former host, Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood). William came face to face with several versions of himself during an extended hallucination sequence, ultimately declaring that he was “the good guy.”
Airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, Westworld stars returning cast members Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth, Simon Quarterman and Rodrigo Santoro, joined by series newcomers Aaron Paul, Vincent Cassel, Lena Waithe, Scott Mescudi, Marshawn Lynch, John Gallagher Jr., Michael Ealy and Tommy Flanagan.
