Sports anime are popular amongst a wide majority of people, from sports fans who don’t much care for anime, to anime fans who don’t really care about sports. The shows make it easier for viewers to understand both genres while somehow wonderfully fusing them both together in a wonderful way. Sports anime are typically listed as shonen anime (such as Naruto or One Piece) even though everything tends to be a lot more realistic and mundane compared to regular sports anime.
Kuroko no Basket (also translated as Kuroko’s Basketball in English) is a basketball-themed sports anime that qualifies itself as one of the biggest sports anime around. It is easily one of the most popular in the genre and has a super eclectic cast of characters that makes it super difficult to pick a favorite. Each member of the Generations of Miracles has a unique skill (or superpower) that makes them super amazing at basketball. Due to their vastly different personalities, it is easy to compare their traits to different zodiac signs.
12 Aries (March 21-April 19) – Daiki Aomine
Aomine is the perfect example of an Aries due to his brash and hotheaded nature. He loves to jump into things without really thinking and is oftentimes guided more by his emotions rather than any form of strategy laid out by his team. Aomine is extremely determined and courageous which made him a pretty fierce enemy when he faced off against Seirin. He is a fire sign and conveniently gets along the best/rivals most with the other fire sign characters on this list.
11 Taurus (April 20-May 20) – Junpei Hyuga
The reliable and patient Taurus matches perfectly for Seirin’s team captain, Hyuga. When faced up against the Generation of Miracles, he may not appear to be that special, but Hyuga is totally unique and able to hold his own. He excels at shooting and is the perfect clutch-player, proving to his team that he is totally reliable in any situation. Taurus are practical and well-grounded as well, something Hyuga needs to be to lead his team constantly to victory.
10 Gemini (May 21-June 20) – Seijuro Akashi
When first watching the show, some viewers may think Akashi actually has two sides to him, someone kind, calm, and collected, and another that is totally malicious and somehow sees everything. In truth, Akashi is both which makes him the perfect Gemini stereotype. Gemini are pretty quick-witted and are able to adapt to new situations easily, something Akashi constantly displays on the court. He knows how to think of the best maneuvers to beat his opponents’ strengths. While he is totally the main antagonist of the series, he also comes off as extremely gentle and soft in the OVA and Kuroko film, Last Game.
9 Cancer (June 21-July 22) – Tetsuya Koroko
Kuroko is the softest character in the show and cares deeply about all of his friends, the Seirin team and the Generation of Miracles members he faces. His whole goal of playing basketball is to play basketball with his friends and have a good time. Cancers are typically known for being one of the most wholesome signs in the zodiac and Kuroko is the most wholesome character in the show.
Cancers have a hard exterior but a softcore, likewise, Kuroko stays away from the limelight and goes unnoticed most of the time (that’s pretty much his thing) as if he is hiding in his shell.
8 Leo (July 23-August 22) – Taiga Kagami
Kagami is the perfect Leo. He oftentimes matches up with Aomine perfectly, but their core difference is just how chivalrous Kagami can be. He’s extremely ambitious and passionate, wanting to prove that he can take down all the members in the Generation of Miracles and become the number 1 player in Japan. Kagami’s roots started during his time in the States, he played streetball in America and transferred his skills over to the courts of Japan. To him, basketball in Japan is totally different from streetball in America, and it takes a bit of a learning curve for both his team and himself to adjust.
7 Virgo (August 23-September 22) – Shintaro Midorima
Virgos are pretty meticulous and enjoy when things very set and organized. Midorima is this exactly, only with a pretty bizarre twist. He is totally superstitious. Midorima must know his horoscope every day and must obtain his daily lucky item, no matter what it is. He basis his day on whatever the horoscope says. If it says he’ll have a bad day, he gets nervous and understands that if he plays a game he’ll probably lose. But if it says he’ll have a good day, he does everything in his power to prove the horoscope and fortune were correct.
6 Libra (September 23-October 22) – Riko Aida
Riko makes a perfect Libra thanks to her ability to weigh options and make some pretty big judgement calls for her team. As the team coach of Seirin, she must constantly make tough decisions for the betterment of her team, including sitting people out even when they don’t want to and changing up the game plan in the middle of a match when things aren’t going their way. Riko is able to judge both her players and the court by just looking and analyzing them.
5 Scorpio (October 23-November 21) – Atsushi Murasaibara
One of the most stubborn characters in the show, Murasakibara oftentimes has the personality of a stubborn and grumpy child. He loves candy and anything sweet but is extremely set in his ways. He never really seems like he wants to play basketball but is still there for his team.
Murasakibara is extremely determined and oftentimes guided more by his emotions than anything else and has a level of assertiveness to him that makes him quite fearful to his opponents.
4 Sagittarius (November 22-December 21) – Ryota Kise
Like the Sagittarius, Kise is always curious and energetic. With his ability to act as a copycat, he needs to discover how his opponents’ skills work. He must observe and dissect them with his mind before being able to be the perfect copy of them. Kise is one of the most open-minded players from the Generation of Miracles and typically has a great sense of humor. He wants to see Kuroko succeed in getting their former friends back together again.
3 Capricorn (December 22-January 19) – Teppei Kiyoshi
Capricorns are super self-disciplined and responsible, two traits the Iron Heart perfectly displays when he is both on and off the court. Kiyoshi is really protecting of his team and acts as a great defense to protect those around him. He is also fairly mature compared to the other members and can sometimes be seen to have a serious nature. He works hard to be the player he is and is extremely honest. But even with his kind nature, he is still able to be sly when needed and push his opponent’s buttons.
2 Aquarius (January 20-February 18) – Shun Izuki
Those that fit under the Aquarius birth chart are oftentimes pretty shy and quiet, which made Izuki go pretty unnoticed to viewers at the beginning of the series. But Izuku had an ace up his sleeve, he has Eagle Eyes which allow him to see and keep track of everything that is going on within the court. Aquarius are born extremely intelligent thinkers and can make plans without much trouble, making them the best problem solvers. Izuki uses his ability to help Seirin whenever he’s on the court.
1 Pisces (February 19-March 20) – Satsuki Momoi
Satsuki is the perfect Pisces due to her extremely compassionate nature yet dreamer like attitude when it comes to helping Kuroko reunite the Generation of Miracles. She shares his dream of playing with all her friends again instead of having all of them compete with one another. She is extremely caring for all her friends and hopes only for the best for them. She is extremely friendly, even to those who may be considered her enemies (such as the members of Seirin), a trait in which Pisces typically live by.
