Why Captain Marvel Should Lead The MCU's Next Avengers Team | CBR

Following the incredible success of her first solo film, Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel seems poised to play a greater role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward. While it’s unclear at this time just what that might look like, we here at CBR think it’s clear she should step up and serve as the leader of the next Avengers team following the retirement of Steve Rogers/Captain America and the death of Tony Stark/Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame.

While there hasn’t yet been any official confirmation about when a new Avengers film will release, there are a lot of reasons Carol should step up as the next leader of the team, not least of all because of her incredible power. In Avengers: Endgame, Carol proved her incredible power by standing toe-to-toe against Thanos, who’d repeatedly proven himself the strongest, deadliest villain against whom Earth’s Mightiest Heroes had ever fought. However, that’s not her only great feat in the film. Carol also rescued Tony when he was stranded in space following the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Over the course of the movie, she proved her ability to lead, and she also has experience as a character with a military background, making her a potentially ideal leader for the Avengers.

As a result of the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the release dates for many upcoming movies have been pushed back, while production has shutdown on both those films and on the various streaming series in the works for Disney+. There’s no indication at this time, though, that these delays will affect the actual content of the films.

Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, O-T Fagbenle as Rick Mason and Rachel Weisz. The film is scheduled for release on Nov. 6.
