The latest expansion to Wizards of the Coast’s enduringly popular trading card game Magic: The Gathering is about to roll out, and the game company is taking measures to support retailer partners affected by the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Wizards of the Coast will allocate $10 million worth of mystery booster packs to retailers in the Wizards Play Network, retailer partners that conduct official Magic: The Gathering competitions.
Wizards of the Coast also urges players to support local businesses by purchasing via various online stores, preordering the upcoming Ikoria: Lair of the Behemoths expansion and staying active in the game’s online community, either through Magic: The Gathering Arena or the game’s official Discord channel.
The new expansion adds massive kaiju to the popular card game, including licensed appearances by Godzilla and his fellow titans. While the American and European physical releases have been delayed until next month due to the global health crisis, the online version of the card game will include the new expansion set in mid-April.
The Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths set will launch on Magic: The Gathering Arena on April 16, for tabletop play in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong on April 17, and for tabletop play everywhere else on May 15.
Following the unveiling of a new expansion to Magic: The Gathering, Wizards of the Coast announces new initiatives to support retailers.
