Following last weekend’s two-day WrestleMania 36 event, WWE has released a unique Titantron for veteran Superstar John Cena as a member of WCW’s popular anti-authority stable, the nWo.
Featuring impactful and rebellious moments from Cena’s career, the package gets an nWo overhaul. The entire video plays out in classic nWo black and white, with images of Cena’s “Hustle, Loyalty, Respect” and “U Can’t C Me” logos mixed in the nWo logo. Naturally, the video is accompanied by the group’s iconic theme music, as well as a scratchy, film aesthetic — fully completing the false perception that Cena was nWo 4 life.
For those who may have missed it, Cena took part in a Firefly Fun House match-up against “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. Their clash took Cena on a physical and psychological journey, as Wyatt’s character forced him to relive key moments of his career. Their bout also presented a few fantasy scenarios — including the one that saw Cena adopt the black and white of the nWo on a WCW Nitro set, holding a World Heavyweight Championship belt spray painted with the stable’s initials.
Wyatt would eventually pin Cena for the three count, securing the win. Like the Boneyard matchup between The Undertaker and AJ Styles, the Firefly Fun House match was delivered in a cinematic style, bending the rules of what pro wrestling could be.
WrestleMania 36 took place on April 4 and April 5. The event was pre-recorded in order to protect WWE Superstars and staff from unnecessary exposure to the coronavirus.
