With film festivals worldwide shutting down due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, many film organizations have decided to team up with YouTube to put on a virtual film festival.
The virtual film festival will be entitled We Are One: A Global Film Festival, a co-production between the video-based social media platform and Tribeca Enterprises. The free-to-watch programming will be available from May 29-June 7 and will not feature any advertisements.
Even within the digital space, the film festival will function in the same capacity as a face-to-face festival. It will hold panel discussions and music entertainment along with showcases for feature-length and short films, documentaries and stand-up comedy.
Film organizations such as the Cannes Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival and Venice Film Festival will curate their programming during the virtual event, with full schedules to be announced at a later date. Aside from showcasing a myriad of films, the festival will aid in COVID-19 relief by encouraging viewers to donate to the World Health Organization.
