Yu Yu Hakusho: 5 Anime Characters Yusuke Urameshi Can Defeat (& 5 He Has No Chance Against)

Yu Yu Hakusho is a ’90s anime that is beloved by many. Although it is not talked about as much anymore, it is still one of the finest works created by Yoshihiro Togashi, so good that it became one of the many pillars that eventually created his magnum opus Hunter X Hunter.

One of the best things about Yu Yu Hakusho is the character development of Yusuke Urameshi who went from a pure delinquent to someone who is more virtuous. Becoming way stronger over time, however, he has always been the type to seek a challenge and it begs the question on who he can and cannot beat. As such here are the 5 characters that Yusuke Urameshi can absolutely defeat and 5 he just has no chance against.

10 CAN DEFEAT: Gon Freecs

Starting this off is Togashi’s other creation. Both Yusuke and Gon Freecs have a lot in common, with both having neglectful father figures and basically earning their abilities through initially being self-taught. However, the universes are in significantly different tiers in terms of power.

Despite all that Gon Freecs has gone through, he is grossly underestimated because of his inexperience and has won very few fights. A lot of his fights he was mostly out of his element and his biggest fight he won by essentially using everything he had. Yusuke Urameshi not only fought worse but he has almost always won all of them.

The other ’90s icon, Goku seems to be what Yusuke Urameshi could have been if he fought out in space. As impressive as Yusuke Urameshi is, the strongest opponent he has ever fought was an S-class demon who is arguably planetary level.

Meanwhile, Goku has reached levels that have gone beyond that, more specifically universal powers. Yusuke Urameshi may have the power of a pure demon and even sacred energy if viewers want anime feats, but Goku has become so beyond him that it is very unlikely that he would beat him.

The new kid on the block, Deku has fought a variety of supervillains, all during his first year at UA Academy. His adaptation and fast growth really make him a devastating threat. If he was able to use 100% of his power, he is able to inflict massive damage to his opponent at the cost of losing a limb.

However, Yusuke Urameshi can output more consistent damage and then some. As impressive as a full cowl and Deku’s more unique One for All abilities are, they aren’t anything Yusuke Urameshi hasn’t fought before. What’s more, from a physical standpoint, he has done far more than Deku.

7 NO CHANCE: Sailor Moon

Fun fact, Togashi and the creator of Sailor Moon are actually married. This is really funny as the styles between the two are vastly different from one another. Togashi’s more organic and somewhat crude style has a charm that gives his story grit. While Sailor Moon’s is incredibly elegant.

However, when it comes to the power level, Sailor Moon far outclasses Yusuke due to her more cosmic abilities. By the end of the story, she is a borderline god capable of doing attacks that Yusuke would just have no chance against.

6 CAN DEFEAT: Akira Fudo

Akira Fudo and Yusuke Urameshi are very unique in many ways. They are both delinquents that have links with their demonic heritage. However, while it is true that Akira Fudo is capable of power that can rival the likes of Satan, Yusuke himself has also fought characters like that in the form of Yomi and Raizen.

What’s more, Yusuke Urameshi has just so much more output then what Akira Fudo is capable of. His own demonic energy is more than enough to take Akira Fudo down.

5 NO CHANCE: Naruto

What’s interesting to note is that Naruto’s mangaka was inspired by the works of Togashi so it would be interesting to see what Naruto is capable of against someone like Yusuke. However, while Naruto was at one point not as strong as Yusuke Urameshi, by the end of the series Naruto has come to a level that is just beyond anything Yusuke is capable of.

He also has more versatility compared to what Yusuke can project and his Kurama forms are all way beyond Yusuke’s mazoku form.

4 CAN DEFEAT: Edward Elric

As the protagonist of Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Edward Elric is an alchemic prodigy who is best known for creating transmutations out of everything, whether it is creating bridges, constructs, or weapons straight out of matter.

However, his destructive capability is nowhere near being capable of contending with Yusuke Urameshi. While it could harm him obviously, it wouldn’t be enough to permanently put him down. Plus Urameshi’s physicality far outclasses any of the Homunculus.

3 NO CHANCE: Saint Seiya

Saint Seiya is one of those characters who is strong enough to contend with literal gods which is something Yusuke Urameshi has no chance against. What’s more, he is capable of absolutely dominating Yusuke Urameshi thanks to the variety of abilities he has under his disposal.

Furthermore, Saint Seiya has fought opponents that have borderline reality-warping abilities, some of which can defeat Yusuke Urameshi with nothing more than a mere thought.

2 CAN DEFEAT: Himura Kenshin

Himura Kenshin is also known as the Battosai, one of the most feared ronin Samurai of the war. Despite him fighting against characters that far exceed a standard human’s strength, he has never fought anyone as supernatural as Yusuke Urameshi.

Yusuke has fought demons and has access to powers that are far beyond anything Kenshin has ever seen. What’s more, Yusuke Urameshi has fought swordsman in the past and while Kenshin is very impressive in his own right, he just isn’t enough against the Spirit Detective.

1 No Chance: Saitama

This is a no-brainer on this list. Saitama is the parody of shonen characters where he is incredibly overpowered by doing measly tasks such as 100 pushups. Without going even close to his full power, he is capable of destroying a planet destroyer.

Although Yusuke Urameshi is a planetary threat, there is absolutely nothing that he can do to physically defeat Saitama. His best chance is he would give Saitama an interesting fight before he knocks Yusuke out with one hit. That’s how absurd Saitama’s power is.
